I have been contacted by the lawyers for rock musician Don Henley, demanding that I turn this domain over to him. They seem to think that people might mistake me for him, even though I inform EVERYBODY that I am not! Hey, it's obvious that these guys have never heard me singing in the shower. Ouch!
And for those people who see the name Don Henley and are moved by curiosity to ask if I'm THAT Don Henley, will they become less curious if I have a different domain name? I don't think so. When I was on Compuserve, with an address that was just a bunch of numbers, the occassional person would still find me and ask that same tired question. The real problem would appear to be that the Don Henley who CAN carry a tune doesn't make it easier (less impossible) for his fans to reach him. Even if I move my site to www.anything-else.com, I'll still be one of hundreds, maybe thousands, of Don Henleys. Are we all going to be asked to change our names next? Should we also change our children's names? Our parent's names? How far back should we go to erase our existence? Does any of this make sense to you? Does it seem even the tiniest bit fair and reasonable? I can understand the lawyers because I've heard all of the lawyer jokes, but why is Don Henley demeaning himself by casually paying them to engage in this foolish and mean-spirited activity?
Finally, I am simply forced to place this whole mess here on the Internet. What do you think? A kind friend, Joe Tan, has placed a petition against this action on his server. If you would be interested in placing your name on it, or just to check it to see what it says, go to http://conline.net/petition/ and thank you for your interest
